fred campbell-jones

phem trainee

Fred trained in Devon and Cornwall for medical school and foundation doctor years. After this, he spent three months working in the jungles of Borneo as an expedition doctor. He went on to do a year of emergency medicine in Canberra, Australia, which sparked his interest in pre-hospital emergency medicine and retrievals. He came back to the UK in 2014 to undertake anaesthetic specialist training in the East Midlands and a six-month Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) fellowship with the West Midlands Ambulance Service. He completed his CCT in Anaesthetics in February 2023 and then moved to Glasgow in August to undertake PHEM training with EMRS for twelve months.

In his spare time, Fred enjoys travelling and has done volunteer work in places like Nicaragua, Mexico, Peru and Tanzania. He has fundraised for WWF, Trauma Care, Movember, Raleigh International and North Devon Hospice charities. He enjoys putting his body to the test with challenges like the London marathon, the Canberra ultra-marathon, sprint triathlons and climbing mountains including Kilimanjaro (5,895m Tanzania), Kinabalu (Borneo), Acatenango volcano (Guatemala) and Sairecabur (5,971m Chile). He is a keen snowboarder, badminton player and has competed at national level in trampolining. More recently he’s been out exploring Scotland’s beautiful outdoors, hiking and ‘bagging’ a few Munros while he's at it.
